Step Up to Get in Step with Herstory

We got a good start during Women's History Month when we raised $1300. As you know our goal is $10,000. It's time to take this campaign to the next level.

Although THEY CAME ACROSS SOUTH MOUNTAIN is grounded in Maryland's story it belongs to the broader story of in-country migration by those seeking the 'warmth of other suns'. The ubiquity of stolen people on stolen land begun in pre-colonial times finds resonance and consequence in the lives of generations of people of color who followed. They survived by way of their tenacity and faith in a power greater than the forces which were arrayed against them. That story, at risk of being banned in this day and time, is too precious to let anyone else tell it.

Getting the word out is important. As Carter G. Woodson, father of Black History Month, reminded us: "A people who have forgotten their past are destined to repeat it." Since the struggle continues future generations need to be able to tap into the wisdom and the mother-wit of those who have gone before them.

Thank you for your donated funds and commitment to seeing the publication of THEY CAME ACROSS SOUTH MOUNTAIN..

Now take the next step and share news of this continuing comapign within your circle of friends and fellows.

Here's your chance to be a part of Herstory during Women's History Month.

Pre-order a copy of my novel, THEY CAME ACROSS SOUTH MOUNTAIN. Based on true events, this is a love story of three generations of free people of color who lived in the State of Maryland at a time when freedom wasn't free. Seeking a better life, they migrated from Allegany and Washington Counties settling in Frederick County on bottom land sandwiched between the C&O Canal and the railroad. Read the first chapter of their story, "He Never Said Goodbye", in PEN IN HAND, the literary journal of the Maryland Writers' Association, July 2020. A labor of love, their story is dedicated to those ancestors upon whose shoulders I stand. Though they could neither read nor write ten (10) copies of their story will be donated to libraries and history museums in the State of Maryland.
By pre-ordering a copy you will support my writing and creating by hand a limited edition of the book, under the apprenticeship of artists aligned with the Frederick Book Arts Center.

Here are three levels of support.

$100 to be listed as a patron.
$200 to be listed as a patron and receive a signed copy of a limited edition of the book.
$300 to be listed as a patron, receive a signed copy of a limited edition of the book and have the opportunity to host an on-line or in-person reading of excerpts from the book.

Let's turn my story into our story. Be a part of Herstory during Women's History Month.
