ELLOS GRITAN LIBERTAD (THEY SCREAM FREEDOM) Documentary

 

Since mid-July, my team and I have tirelessly donated our time to create ELLOS GRITAN LIBERTAD (THEY SCREAM FREEDOM). A film that will uplift the voices of our brothers and sisters in Cuba. On July 11, 2021, thousands took to the streets in cities and towns throughout Cuba, shouting in unison Libertad! (Freedom!), showing the world the consequences of empty promises made from a 62-year-old Revolution. Currently, we are in post-production and realize this film needs the support of our community to be successful. The funds raised here will help offset the post-production expenses, provide funds toward grant research and film festival fees. A film becomes powerful when it has a platform to be seen. Our hope is ELLOS GRITAN LIBERTAD to be shown in as many film festivals as possible, allowing many Cubans to have a voice that finally reaches the masses. Submission fees typically range from $45 to $75 per festival. Anything raised over the goal will go towards film festival expenses. 

 

 

 

 

The silence was broken. The veil was lifted. Cuba has reached a boiling point after many long years of food shortages, dilapidated buildings, increasing wealth gaps, and strictly suppressed political unrest. Thousands have taken to the streets in an unprecedented eruption of protest, crying out for their fundamental human right to freedom.

 

Though the Cuban government has shut down Internet access in light of these recent protests, brave individuals have found a way to offer testimony. They allow the world a rare window into daily Cuban life and the human rights violations taking place.

 

Voices that have been silenced for too long, that now cry ‘Patria y Vida!’ (Homeland and Life). Ellos Gritan Libertad is a wake-up call, showing the world the island’s disturbing realities. This film seeks to convey the experience of the Cuban people through their own stories and art, from poetry to music.

 

 

 

 

These recollections are interspersed with poetry from respected Cuban poet Jorge Enrique Gonzalez Pacheco as well as stirring imagery of the island from various sources, both tragic in their beauty and insistent in their relatability.

that awakens the

hidden rage within…”

 

For the sake of freedom, for the sake of Cuba.
