Be A Light For Adam’s Eyesight
Donation protected
In July 2018, Adam suffered an accident resulting in a very serious and rare infection that has left him blind in both eyes for an indeterminate amount of time. The infection is from a parasite, acanthamoeba keratitis, which is eating away at his corneas. It is an infection so rare that most doctors will never see it in their lifetime, and he is 1 of only 20 people in the US being treated for this.
Adam has endured crippling pain as his body and the treatment wage war on this parasite that is very hard to kill and can survive almost all conditions. The parasite causes extreme sensitivity to light, stabbing pain in eyes, headaches, blindness, scarring, and general malaise. He has been housebound and living in literal darkness for it is too painful to be in any light. He must complete a full six months of treatment. Then he has to wait for his eyes to heal enough to reduce the chance of rejection before he can get transplants for each eye. He will only get one transplant at a time with a wait period of up to six months between transplants. While the worst is getting behind him, he still has a long way to go before he recovers; and medical bills and living expenses continue to pile up.
Adam is a hard-working man who has always strived to care for his young family. Unfortunately, this has left him completely disabled from work until his two transplants are complete. Adam’s wife is not currently able to work as Adam needs full-time care administering his medications which must be done in precise intervals to be effective. His wife also needs to take care of their two small children, 2 years and 3 weeks. This has left them to live off of their meager savings. They must make weekly trips to see a specialist and pay for 3 of his 5 medications out of pocket which are refilled every two weeks. Perhaps the saddest and worst part for Adam through this whole ordeal has been that he hasn’t actually seen his family since July. He hasn’t seen how much his two year old has changed in looks nor has he ever seen the face of his newborn. If you can help his family through this difficult time in any way whether with a financial donation to relieve that burden, prayers for healing and recovery, or by sharing this page his family would be forever grateful. We hope he will one day see and live in the light.
