THE STORY

2 years ago now I was sat on a train in New Zealand when I overheard a young boy talking about how he had witnessed a robbery. His laughter about the situation shocked me but also inspired me and out of it came AKIMBO's first character Tommy. AKIMBO has transformed into an Australian, short comedy that takes you on a rollercoaster with a heartwarming and powerful underlying message: call your mum. - Billie Byrne

WHY THIS FILM?

I have something very important to say with this film. It is about trust and protection, it is about fear and yet connection, it is about family and specifically motherhood. But ultimately it is about the act of trying. This film is for everyone; mothers, people without a mum and with one. I want to make people feel changed at the end of this film however small that may be and especially I want to make people laugh.
