Ryan’s journey…..
Ryan showed symptoms of Covid beginning Sunday, July 18th. He tested positive on July 20th. His symptoms were moderate but stable.
On Tuesday, July 27th his temperature spiked again so he went to the ER. His x-ray showed infiltrates (fluid in his lungs) consistent with Covid pneumonia and they sent him to Mercy in Oshkosh. Appropriate medication and care were started to try to halt his inflammation process. He continued to decline. To help you understand how this condition progresses, the doctor explained it like this: on day 5 or 6 after symptoms began, that was when the virus did all the damage. His body eliminated the virus by day 10. Then his body "over-reacted" and his inflammation response took off like a wild-fire. It's called "cytokine storm." His inflammation wouldn’t shut off and it still didn’t shut off even with the use of an experimental drug.
On Sunday, August 1st his lung was accidentally punctured. For those of you with more medical background, they caused a pneumothorax while inserting the central line. Tuesday, August 3 he was airlifted to UW Madison to get ECMO which is a special therapy to assist in oxygenation of his lungs. Ryan is in the best hospital and receiving amazing treatments.
Ryan is a charismatic, loving, funny and compassionate man that would do anything to help anyone in need. Unfortunately, his recovery will take months and his family will need help with the incurred costs and financial burdens. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. All funds will go directly to Ryan’s medical costs and to support his family’s needs during this difficult time.
Ryan and his family appreciate the outpouring of love, prayers, and support. Ryan’s will to live and to be with his family is strong. Although he is very sick and has a long road ahead of him, we have faith and believe in the power of God and the power of prayer.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
