Hello & welcome to the medical go fund me page for Sarah and her family:
My name is Erin, and if you're like me, your life has been bettered by knowing Sarah. I was blessed to meet Sarah my freshman year in college and then lucky enough to have our friendship continue now, more than a decade. As with any great friendships, you go through life's highs and lows together. You celebrate each other during the happy moments, like when Sarah and Elliot welcomed their beautiful daughter Marley into this world, and you are there to support each other during the unimaginable, like Sarah's medical journey that began September 6th, 2022 in an ICU room fighting for her life.
Since then Sarah has defied so many odds, shown faith and tenacity in face of fear and uncertainty, and persevered any and ALL obstacles that have been thrown her way, including this next battle, Breast Cancer...
A look at Sarah's journey so far:
- September 2022- Admitted to the ICU with Pancreatitis, fighting for her life
- October 2022- Recovering at home, but remains wheelchair bound and gets equipped with a continuous glucose monitor to manage her Diabetes
- November 2022- Began physical therapy
- December 2022- Starts working with a Pain Management Doctor to manage severe nerve pain
- January 2023- Hooray! after 4 months Sarah has her first day back at work but little does she know by the end of the month she will be rocking an abdominal drain to rid herself of fluid buildup in her abdomen
- February 2023- Onto bigger and better abdominal drains
- March 2023- Hospital admission #2, more scans and antibiotics
- April 2023- First family vacation since all things medical
- May 2023- Memorial day weekend spent enjoying family and being happy
- June 2023- CT scan #13, shows only mild inflammation, healing continues
- July 2023- Soaked up some more summer holidays with family and friends
- August 2023- Sarah celebrates a birthday she didn't know if she would live to see or not
- September 2023- Celebrated ONE WHOLE YEAR since this medical journey began
- October 2023- Receives diagnosis of Stage 2A Grade 3 triple Negative Breast Cancer
- November 2023- Bilateral Mastectomy with reconstruction & port placement =more drains and wound vacuum.
- December 2023- Celebrate Christmas with family while preparing for this next battle, months of CHEMO.
Now, if you're like me, reading the above list makes me feel overwhelmed, let alone being the person that has lived through all of this. The Cain family has spent tens of thousands of dollars already in the past 15 months in medical expenses, and will likely spend tens of thousands more as Cancer treatment continues and management of Sarah's other medical needs. Although Sarah hopes to work and continue life as "normal" (as any young 30 something year old, with a 3 year old, a working husband, and while fighting Cancer can) but the financial situation is an unknown stressor as they take on the 2024 year.
Any dollar amount that can be contributed to the medical expenses that continue to accumulate would be more than appreciated by the Cain family, as well as continued positive thoughts and prayers.
