BC Female Police Class Action

Donation protected
We are fighting to make the workplace safer for all female police officers in BC. We are fighting to change legislation to make it safer. We are fighting for compensation for all of the victims. We are looking for financial support as we move our way through the court system.

This fundraiser is to assist the six Plaintiffs in a Class Action lawsuit with significant and ongoing legal fees as this case moves through the justice system. The six Plaintiffs, Anja Bergler, Helen Irvine, Cary Ryan, Lauren Phillips, Ann-Sue Piper, and one who cannot be named due to a publication ban, are former and current female BC municipal police officers, representing all former and current municipal female police officers within the Class. That is, those that are or were employed by a BC municipal police department, who were discriminated against, harassed, and/or bullied at work because they were women.

All six Plaintiffs were subject to gender and sexual orientation-based discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and bullying by other officers and management during their careers. They are fighting to hold the Municipal Police Departments and the government authorities responsible for their management accountable for their failure to fulfill statutory, common law, and contractual duties to provide them and other members of the Class with a work environment free of gender and sexual-orientation based discrimination harassment and bullying.

The lawsuit was filed on October 12, 2023, and saw the inside of a courtroom on December 20, 2023.

The six Plaintiffs have been working tirelessly to get this lawsuit off the ground. They have been actively engaged with the media to bring awareness to their cause, and they attended the BC Legislature in Victoria on November 21, 2023, to draw attention to the problematic legislation that is allowing discriminatory behaviour against women in policing go unchecked. To date, no unions or women’s policing organizations have offered support or assistance.

The overriding goal is to bring public awareness toward the need for systemic change, to call for the support of government bodies and offices to legislate these changes, so we can pave the way for a safer workplace for all female municipal police in BC.

This lawsuit reaches women far and wide across BC and the Plaintiffs are asking for help to push this historic lawsuit through to certification.
