My name is Jason Garner. I am starting this gofundme for my older brother, Brandon Garner. Some of you may know my older brother and some of you may not. Briefly, here is what I can tell you about him: He values the relationships in his life whether it be his family or friends. He is the most kind and loyal person you will ever meet. He loves music, BBQ, leather work, the outdoors, guns, and of course hanging out with family and friends.
My brother was born with a rare form of muscular dystrophy called Pompe Disease that hadn't manifested itself until his adult years. He was misdiagnosed with a few other diseases 3 years prior then a correct diagnosis was finally made on February 14, 2014. On this day there was sadness but also relief, because his diagnosis finally provided an explanation as to why his body was in so much pain. These past few years have been incredibly difficult for me and my family as we have watched my older brother slowly have the things that bring him joy taken from him due to this disease. Currently Brandon's lungs function at 48% capacity and everyday activities such as going up stairs, getting out of a chair, getting into a car, and getting dressed is done with much difficulty. Suffice it to say every day is a challenge for him, but despite the challenges you never hear Brandon complain. I admire that about him.
As of right now, there is no cure for Pompe, but thankfully, it is the only form of muscular distrophy that is treatable. Brandon is currently recieving a treatment every two weeks in hopes that it will slow the progression of the disease. In order to continue to qualify for the medical aid that helps pay for the costly treatments he is only able to work a few hours each week. As you can imagine this leaves Brandon in a tough position financially.

Now on to why this money is needed?
One of the downsides to having a debilitating disorder is what it takes to make even the simplest of tasks achievable. Sadly more often than not the equipment that is required to help with these simple tasks ends up being unaffordable for someone like Brandon who is on a limited fixed income. Brandon is almost to the point where he cannot get in and out of his car. He is in need of a reliable vehicle with certain handicap accessories to assist him. We are trying to raise money specifically for the bruno valet plus seat and a down payment for a reliable vehicle to put this seat/lift into.
Ideally we would like to raise this money over the next few months.
Driving is an activity that Brandon is still able to truly enjoy. He loves road trips to visit his family and friends and to see different places and meet new people. This system would allow Brandon to enter and exit his vehicle without fear of falling or asking for assistance from another person. It would allow him to maintain some independence that he desperately wants.
I just want to say a huge thank you to family members who have already donated to this specific cause. I can speak on behalf of Brandon and say he has been truly humbled by your generosity.
We will forever be grateful for those who take the time to learn more about Brandon and the disease that has impacted our lives. Thank you in advance for any donation.
Thank You,
Jason Garner
