Mayotte is our home a small island in Indian Ocean, where we were born and where our parents reside has been struck by the worst cyclone in nearly a century. Cyclone Chido made landfall on 14th December 2024, unleashing devastating wind gusts of more than 250km/hr (140 mph).
This small, isolated island, with no connecting countries or nearby refuge, is home to over 300,000 people, including our family, and the destruction has been horrendous. Heavy rain, strong winds, and dangerous flooding have caused significant damage to infrastructure and homes, tearing roofs off buildings, uprooting trees, and leaving more than 15,000 households without power. We know that the population have suffered an immense blow. The size of the island has meant the cyclone could not dissipate as it would on mainland
The storm has left many people without shelter and facing the grim prospect of being cut off from food and health facilities for weeks. Recovery efforts are underway, but the community is in dire need of support. The vulnerability of the people of Mayotte means that they require urgent aid and international support.
Please consider donating any amount to help the people of Mayotte directly. We are aiming to utilise the money focusing on rebuilding homes and providing basic medicine supply for people here.
If you require further information or would like to discuss further, visit the contact form at the bottom—I’m happy to answer your questions and explain how your contribution can make a difference.
We have further obtained names of 3 familes in Mayotte which we will sponsor from this fund. At the moment, the people in Mayotte are struggling to get supplies and even basic utilities such as electricity and water going on regular basis. People are relying on use of generators for consistent supply of electricity. Once building materials are available, we will send the fund obtained directly to relevant head of family.
