Hello everyone, my name is Sara Lovett. Three years ago I decided to leave my home and start a journey in a search of myself and what I wanted the meaning of my life to be. I used my career to do this and started travel nursing. While looking for a new home I stumbled into two of the most caring, honest, generous people, Leslie and Jim. I live on their beautiful property in Clearlake CA, with them. Since day one, we’d wake up and meet outside with the dogs for coffee and good conversation before starting our days. At the end of each day we’d unwind with a potluck and just sit and chat for hours while enjoying the sunsets off the lake, that was filled with wild life. I can say that the time I spent with these two has not only helped me find what I was looking for, but they also became the family I didn't know I was missing.
Two months ago our routine changed abruptly. Leslie went from having back pain to being diagnosed with cancer within two weeks. Days after finding out about her diagnosis she was hospitalized for symptoms related to her diagnosis. She has been in the hospital for two months now and we are just starting to get some answers.
After a month long rollercoaster ride of, "it might be this and could be that," while she's suffering from agonizing pain and multiple stents placed in the brain to relieve the pressure from a fluid built up, she had a biopsy done. Immediately after the biopsy was done we were told by the surgeon that it was not cancer and that it was treatable. We were all ecstatic! I saw Jim take his first breath since all of this started. It was a miracle. Happiness in the form of uncontrollable tears came from each one of us. The very next day we were told that they made a mistake and that some of the biopsy results had come back with positive cancer markers. It can take a week to a month for all the results to come back. They have told us that the type of cancer she is fighting is rare and only happens to 1% of the population and because of this, there is very little research on how to treat it with anything other than chemo and radiation. The thing they were sure of is that Leslie is going to have to fight for her life.
Jim is the family member we all hope we have in our lives. He gets up everyday at 6am and drives 3.5 hours to UCSF to spend the day with Les and doesn’t get home until 9pm. He spends around $85 a day to get to and from the hospital. That’s $2,635/month. This is why we need your help. I’m asking anyone who has been touched by their love, generosity, compassion, or even this incredible story to help donate what you can. If you can't I understand and would just ask you to share this with as many people as you can, because I think the world just needs a little love and kindness right now and that is certainly true for my dear friends Leslie and Jim.
Anything helps! A $10 donation can help Jim pay the Golden Gate Bridge toll for a day, $35 can help with the cost for gas. $32 can pay the parking garage fee for a day. Of course there are many more financial obligations that they are facing as well. Whatever you find in your heart to donate we are grateful for. Thank You an advance for all your love and support. We’re happy to welcome each one of you into our village.
