PCH '90 Honors Courtney Wagner
Donation protected
This campaign honors a brave young woman who received a life-altering diagnosis in the first week of her freshman year of high school--stage 4 glioblastoma-- brain cancer.
Courtney Wagner proceeded, with grace and determination, to fight that disease while still remaining a student-athlete. She battled through 4 years worth of brain surgery, chemo & radiation, all the while maintaining a sunny outlook and positive attitude.
Court is surrounded by a wonderful, supportive family, including her mom--our classmate, Jamie Huyer Wagner. The power of their love has certainly played a vital role in her battle. She also gained national attention--and surely won the hearts of millions--when a huge network of supporters succeeded in "getting Courtney to Ellen" last March & making her dream of meeting Ellen DeGeneres come true.
One of Courtney's true passions is soccer. She continued to play, against all odds for a long time during her treatment. When she could no longer play, she continued to attend the games and cheer on her sisters and teammates. She toughed out high school to the best of her ability and graduated ON TIME with her class & was the first student to be accepted into the class of 2020 at Hobart & William Smith Colleges in upstate New York. At every turn, she defied the odds--defied every gloomy prediction--with grace and courage.
She moved in at HWS this fall, looking forward to being a "Heron", but her physical challenges proved too overwhelming to stay.
The Parkway Central Class of 1990 would like to honor Courtney's brave battle and endless grace in the face of adversity. We would like to offer a scholarship, in Courtney's name, to a young woman on the PCH soccer team who exemplifies grace, team spirit, courage and hope. If we exceed our $1000 goal, we would like to continue this tradition in the coming year(s) by honoring students with the "Courtney's Grace" Award.
Please join us in creating this scholarship! It will be so meaningful to Courtney and her family, knowing that another college-bound soccer player will continue Courtney's legacy--and it will be a wonderful reward for a student who deserves it!
