Donate to Jeff's Journey to Recovery

Last week, my dad, Jeff (aka Phredgeoff aka Phreddad), wound up in the hospital with severe renal failure, and we thought we were going to lose him. Thankfully, he fought and with the incredible care of the team at Christus St. Vincent's, and with all of your prayers, he is still with us. However, the road to recovery is going to be a long one. He is currently on dialysis, and we are hopeful that his kidneys will be able to return to normal function once the root cause has been treated.

Here's where it gets complicated. After initial tests, it looks like the underlying culprit is bladder cancer. The positive news is that bladder cancer is highly treatable, but it will take some time. He is still in the hospital, and we are unclear when he will be allowed to go home. He is in good spirits and is, of course, cracking jokes and charming his care team. He is everyone's favorite patient. My mom is a fantastic caregiver and is by his side, surrounding him with her white lights of protection (those of you who know about the white lights, know lol).

My parents tirelessly give to their community, from Teatro Paraguas, Umbrella Children's Theater, St. Anne's Catholic Church to their many friends and family members. They are teachers and leaders, and they have brought music, inspiration, joy, love, and peace to so many people.

Now, I am asking the community they have nurtured for decades to help. Financial stress is not conducive to healing, and we are unsure of the impact this illness will have. They have already had to pull away from their commitments and projects at Teatro, which means they will lose the income that they depend on. With your help, we can make sure they can focus on healing without the stress of upcoming bills and lost wages, and hopefully provide a cushion on the road to recovery.
