AMES Science Olympiad Teams 2016

Donation protected
Since October 2015 students from the Ames Middle and High Schools have been working hard, practicing several times every week preparing for the State Science Olympiad Competition. The Ames High School and Ames Middle School Science Olympiad teams both finished in first place in their divisions at the State Science Olympiad competition at Coe College on Saturday, April 9th. This qualifies the teams to represent the state of Iowa at the National Science Olympiad to be held May 19-22 at the University of Wisconsin, where they will be join 5,000 like-minded STEM enthusiasts.

The Science Olympiad is a team-based competition that consists of a series of different hands-on, interactive, challenging and inquiry-based events that incorporates various disciplines of biology, earth science, environmental science, physics, and engineering among others. Throughout the history of Iowa, only thrice has the dynasty of Ames Middle School been challenged. Every year that Iowa has sent a Division C team to nationals, it has been Ames High School.

As you can imagine, the teams (32 students & 3 coaches) need to raise money to compete in just a months’ time. The team invites family, business and the community to help them in their ambitious fundraising to offset the nearly $8,000 bill (charter bus, hotel, food). Let’s help these amazing kids to reach their goal.

Thank you.
