Baylor's Recovery From Accident

Donation protected
Hey everyone, this is Baylor's sister, Carsyn.

On May 1st, Baylor went through what we all have come to the conclusion on... the most terrifying freak accident. What we know and what we have tried so hard to make sense of and piece together is this...

Baylor was working on a house with our dad roughly 25-30ft up on a ladder when a piece of metal he was holding must have come close enough to create an arc from a nearby power line. This resulted in him being electrocuted and blown off the ladder.

He fell and our dad found him motionless and unconscious. He came to within a minute while our dad was calling 911 and screaming for neighbors. Baylor at that time kept asking, "What happened? What happened? I can't feel my legs, Dad."

He was rushed to HCMC in Minneapolis.

The last 48 hours feel like the closest thing to a nightmare for all of us who love him. He has teams of doctors... all specializing in different areas of concern.

Due to wounds, the synopsis is that the electricity entered his arms and exited in his shins. This can impact his heart, nerves, etc.

He had a large laceration on the left side of his head that needed staples.

He has a broken back. T7 burst fracture. They will know more in surgery, but it looks complete. Meaning he will have functioning from the middle torso up. Fully functioning arms and pretty great trunk stability. This is the best understanding right now.

The doctor, who is ready to perform the 13-hour surgery on his spine, said his concerns of doing it sooner than next week are the blood pooling due to a hemothorax. They removed liters after the chest tube was placed. It has slowed down a ton... but has not subsided totally.

He has a vent to make sure he breathes normally as he is under heavy amounts of pain medication.

At this time, what we can do while there are so many questions up in the air is continue to pray and help.

Baylor is not one to ask for help. He is the most independent, strong-willed, yet generous (nearly to a fault) human being you will ever meet. The last thing he wants is to feel like a burden to those around him. However, with that said, I know the community he loves so much with his friends and family would all agree this is a time to put that aside and do what he has done for all of us without hesitation, is help.

Baylor is the primary provider in his home. He has an amazing significant other, Callie, as well as two young kids, Daxton and Lahni. We will do everything in our power to try and lessen the burden of what is to come. I know what lies ahead will be emotionally and mentally taxing on him. For that, he has so very many of us that will be cheering him on and there for him.

On the financial end of things, this is where I hope as a community who loves him, can pull together to wash that worry away. From making sure their home mortgage payment continues to be made, followed by funds to help with what will be extensive remodeling needed. Remodeling to turn their home into one that can accommodate a wheelchair because at this time, their home will not be accessible for him.

If you may not financially be able to assist but you are in the trades at any capacity that would go into remodeling, please contact me. As we will be getting plans in place to get this started so whenever he is able to return home, he can do just that. Be home <3.

If you can, please help this amazing Son, Grandson, Brother, Nephew, Cousin, Friend, Significant Other, and most importantly... Father.

With sincere gratitude and love,
Baylor's Family
