Hi everyone. I am an old high school friend of Erika Ender Pine. My name is Janis Mandac-Dy, and I have created this fund to help Erika and her daughter Baylee. I am a pediatric nurse practitioner, and when I first read Erika's posts about Baylee's very rare condition - Complex Regional Pain Syndrome - I contacted the few people I knew in the world of pain management. But what I learned is that this disease is so rare, and there is no cure. The goals of treatment for CRPS are to slow the progression of the disease, and try to help sufferers cope with the pain and try to maintain quality of life.

 

You would never know that Baylee has been battling this disease for nearly 2 years, and sadly it has progressed. Baylee was accepted to receive treatment at Stanford, but insurance does not cover all of the treatment expenses which include having to live on site near Stanford for 12+ weeks. Erika would never ask for this kind of help, but she and Baylee need it.

 

Here is an excerpt from one of Erika's posts: Today was super rough on her. Her smile is why people think she is ok, that is how she tries to hide her pain. Not a lot of people know exactly how hard it is for her to smile or the extreme pain she is in behind the smile, because they just see her beautiful smile!! She tries to protect everyone else from worrying about her, she amazes me with how strong she is!! Today she had to stop many times during her appts because of the pain being too incredibly intense. Those that know Baylee know that is so incredibly hard for her to admit she can’t do or finish something!! Bay is a fighter and absolutely hates it when her disease controls her. She refuses to give in so when it stops her like it did today in all of her appts, she is in extreme pain.
