Baylee and Sherman Need Your Support

Update - 5/6/25, 1:45p
Sherman is out of surgery as of 2 AM this morning. He is groggy and sleepy of course but he is stable and did great under anesthesia. During surgery, the doctors were able to get his abdomen cleaned up as well as everything else. What it looks like to them is he had a possible bowel obstruction/foreign body that’s no longer there, but it irritated his system so much also causing a lymph node to burst and leak into his abdomen. There are other possibilities for what caused this so biopsies were sent out, but the area of the lymph node is not an area where it can be removed we are praying it’s not malignant. We will not know until a week or so. Fingers crossed as long as Sherman starts to improve, he will be able to go home with his mama tomorrow. I know I speak for both myself and Baylee when I say I cannot thank everybody enough for all the kind words and donations made. You helped save Sherman’s life.

After an ultrasound, we have major concerns for Sherman. Unfortunately there are still no solid answers on what they found and what caused it. What they are seeing is what looks like a very enlarged lymph node that is leaking fluid. His total at VEG was $2500. He had to be referred out to FETCH who did more diagnostic testing at $1600. Now, Sherman’s only chance is emergency surgery at Blue Pearl Clearwater with a specialist tonight. As soon as I have better details, I will add in. Baylee is doing anything and everything she can to save his life and give him a chance. He deserves it more than anything. Surgery estimate Is around $10k.

Sherman started to decline again. No bowel movements for 48 hours. His fever went up again and he had to be readmitted to the emergency clinic. This time we chose Veterinary Emergency Group in Tampa instead. He is being admitted now and X-rays as well as more blood, and an ultrasound is being done. We are so scared for our boy. The doctor said if he isn’t progressing within 24 hours Sherman will will need to go to a specialist as we have no answers yet. They are giving her a nurses discount but her estimate is $3500, high end.

Update - 5/5/25, 7a
Sherman was able to come home this morning on a few different medications. The total came to $1600. As long as no concerns arise and he improves he will just need follow up blood work in 2-3 days.

On Saturday, May 3rd, around 9p, Baylee’s dog Sherman who we love so so much started acting a little off. He didn’t want to eat dinner or even get off the couch. We took his temperature which came to 105.3. Then immediately we took him in to Animal Emergency of Hernando, where bloodwork and a urinalysis was done right away.

The most concerning result was his WBC being at 36,000 when a dog’s normal WBC is 13,000. Obviously showing there’s a huge infection somewhere.

Sherman is one of those once in a life time dogs. He’s the best boy and has been Baylee’s shadow since she rescued him last year. He’s just over a year old. Baylee would do anything to get him healthy and will continue to do so, but as we all know vet bills don’t ever come cheap.

As of right now (5/4/25, 5p) Sherman is doing okay. He is eating and somewhat bright and alert, but he is still fighting a fever while being on IV fluids and antibiotics. His fever was controlled all morning, then spiked again this afternoon so they had to add an additional antibiotic. Her bill was estimated to be around $1600 (she’s paid $800 deposit so far) but that was just for the first 24 hours of care and initial round of diagnostics. His infection is still of unknown origins and he will more than likely need to be hospitalized for a longer period of time until we can get the fever/infection under control. At this point, her bill will more than likely be WELL over $1600.

If you know Baylee, you know she never stops giving to everyone else. She just finished nursing school and life keeps slamming her with one thing after another. She positively tries to keep her head above water and never asks for help, but if anyone deserves it, it’s her. If you can spare anything to help ease the stress of this, it would be greatly appreciated.

*Once we get copies of the estimates/bloodwork and anything else I will add them in here!*
