In the midst of Covid-19, we learned Bayla has osteosarcoma of her shoulder. This type of cancer is extremely painful and aggressive. Bayla is a young, strong dog with a generous spirit. The vet recommended amputation of her front leg followed by chemotherapy. As a cancer survivor myself, I did not hesitate to follow the vet’s advice. However, these unexpected bills have been adding up quickly. We still have a long road of treatments, and would greatly appreciate any assistance.
We also learned she qualifies to participate in the Yale Cancer Canine Vaccine Program. The Yale Vaccine is a phase II canine clinical trial designed to trigger immune responses against tumor proteins. The ultimate goal is that this treatment could one day help human cancer patients.
Bayla is also my daughter’s emotional support dog (ESA). During her spectacular 5 years, Bayla has been my daughter’s constant companion. She has served to sooth my daughter’s fears as she navigated my cancer treatments, grief with the sudden death of her father, and disappointments due to the COVID disruptions including her high school graduation and college plans. Bayla is truly the glue that has held us all together and we believe she has a bright and healthy future.
Bayla appears to be feeling better than before her surgery and is adapting to her sturdy three legs. We are hopeful for her complete remission and many great years ahead to share. We are also hopeful that this amazing canine trial will aid Bayla and one-day humans as well. Thank you so much for reading and considering a donation. Stay Safe
