The Gazebo in Memorial Park Needs Your Help!
Built in 1913 by the Bayfield Women's Civic League and maintained to this day by the League, the iconic Gazebo in Memorial Park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is in immediate need of being restored. This was verified by a recent survey conducted by Northland Consulting Engineers of Duluth, MN.
Memorial Park and its Gazebo provide welcoming green space on the lakefront for both residents and visitors. The Gazebo is the cornerstone of the park and the site of many community events, including the very popular and well-attended Free Concert Series on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the summer, Memorial Day and Fourth of July celebrations, Easter Egg Roll, art fairs, and weddings.
Current estimates for its restoration total $100,000 with work to be completed in the Spring/Summer 2023. This includes the installation of a concrete foundation, and replacement of wood-clad steel columns, seating benches and flooring, in addition to roof repair.
Over the past 10 years, with community support, the League has installed 21 benches, new entrance railings, has significantly improved the landscaping, and has re-paved the walking paths in Memorial Park. We are asking now for your support to ensure the necessary restoration work is completed so that the Gazebo remains a significant iconic structure in the Park for many more decades.
PLEASE HELP by donating to this very worthy and necessary historic restoration project. We are grateful for your generosity.
