Hello Friends,
As many of you know, Mark and I were born and raised in Minnesota, and Minneapolis will always hold a special place in our hearts. Seeing the pain and turmoil unfolding in this beautiful city—the City of Lakes, a community built on love, resilience, and diversity—is heartbreaking. It’s hard to comprehend the depth of what people there are facing.
We’ve been in touch with friends and family back home. They’ve shared that while fear is real, so is their determination to stand up for one another in the most selfless and courageous ways. Their strength inspires us, and we want to do what we can to support them.
We’ve chosen several organizations and nonprofits that are making a difference on the ground, and we invite you to join us in helping however you’re able. Every contribution, no matter the size, matters.
- Community Care Kits – an organization fostering prepared citizens to act as a vital safety net in a time when local medical staff and emergency services are stretched thin by building and distributing hundreds of first aid kits for students, legal observers and rapid responders, including at the site where Alex Pretti was murdered.
- Foothold Twin Cities – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis paying bills to help make ends meet for those in need and 100% of all funds raised go to families in crisis. The group is completely volunteer-run and there are no administration costs. Now, they are helping to pay rent for families who have been unable to leave their homes.
- Twin Cities Food Justice – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis. Since March 2016 they have been working with co-ops, grocery stores, and farmers markets to re-distribute their unsalable foods to local hunger relief organizations. Now, local food shelves say that ICE agents are targeting their locations and scaring away people. Pantries are reporting 50% to 80% fewer visitors as reports of ICE agents waiting outside of them continue. That has volunteers now bringing groceries directly to those who need them most. Twin Cities Food Justice is also partnering with local schools to donate 1,000 food bags to families.
You can also send your support via Venmo to @MichelleLanglie. We’re so grateful for anything you’re able to give.
