Loving support for the family of Elijah Nealy
Donation protected
Elijah died peacefully at home after his 18-month fight against NETs pancreatic cancer. In the loving company of his family, he took his last breath on Thursday, September 23, 2021.
The last time you heard from us in this forum, we made a plea for financial assistance to support Elijah and his family as they had to absorb insurance premiums, lost income and medical costs until Elijah could recover. We set the goal at $75,000 -- which was calculated believing that he would be in treatment for for 12 to 18 months, then in recovery for many more, unable to earn a living.
This loving community came through with donations totalling more than $18,500 after the first ask. That made all the difference to the family and they are truly grateful. In fact, the amount raised after the first ask turned out to be almost exactly what was needed – because Elijah’s remaining time ended up being so short.
The hopes we had then proved not to be possible.
We come back to you at this juncture to ask if we might pull together one last time to provide support for Alexandra and Kaj as they make the transition to a life without their spouse and father. As a widow, Alexandra needs some support as she turns the corner to self-sufficiency. She let go of her good position to move to Hartford for Elijah's career, and for the last year, stopped working all together to care for Elijah.
All of Elijah's income ceased the day he passed.
She believes it will take about 3 months to find work so we're setting a goal of $10,000. If you’re in a position to help, we would be most grateful. God knows, this sad situation has been very difficult for Alexandra who has put Elijah’s needs first for the last year and a half. We don’t want her to have to worry about taking the time she needs to grieve and recover from her own exhaustion.
Thank you.
