Almost a year and a half ago I had the opportunity to travel to Cameroon to help open a medical clinic in the remote village of Bawa. It was one of the most exciting trips of my lifetime. I will forever be grateful for the experience and the many wonderful people I was able to meet. The clinic is in a very remote village that is not easily accessed due to undeveloped roads and a vigorous rainy season. While the clinic is doing a wonderful job of treating patients locally, there are times that transfer to a larger facility can be the difference in the life or death of a patient. An ambulance that has the capability to transfer patients safely has been the next big dream of the team organizing the clinic. Please see the note from Blaise Dondji, President & Co-Founder of the Bawa Health Initiative. below. This is is home , his village, and his family and friends that he is working so hard to protect.

Bawa Health Initiative is raising funds to acquire an ambulance for the Health Clinic in Bawa. The clinic opened late 2017 and has been receiving patients. Babies are being delivered at the clinic including this set of twins that was born last March 11, 2019. However, we don’t have a physician on staff and no equipment to carry out surgeries. Consequently, the clinic personnel must transfer women in labor who need C-section to the District Hospital in town, more than 13 miles away. This patient’s transfer is currently done using a motorcycle on a dirt road. Very risky and uncomfortable! We have identified a tropicalized Toyota Landcruiser 4WD ambulance. The cost to buy and ship it to Cameroon is US$ 60,000. Fortunately, one of our major donor has pledged US$ 30,000.00. Our current goal is to raise the other US$ 30,000.00 to match the pledge. Please, join us in this effort by donating to the Bawa Health Initiative. Your donations will save lives…Thank you in advance!
