My mom was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer, cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), which has now has spread to her liver and her lungs. My mom is 66 years young, but has lived a life filled with love from her husband, her three kids, and her seven grandchildren.
My mom won her first battle with cancer fifteen years ago (colon cancer) and has bravely battled this horrible cancer. However, the doctors now say it is only a matter of time.
It was so tough for her and our family when we heard the excruciating words “you have cholangiocarcinoma”. Mom was diagnosed a few days before Christmas 2017, when she became ill with what we thought was a fever. This four-month battle has taken a toll for the worse and it's been a continuous series of bad news. She was admitted to the hospital for a week and was given the diagnosis. If things weren't already bad enough, my parents’ dog of 17 years passed away while she was in the hospital. It made the holiday season miserable.
Mom was originally a liver surgery candidate and had surgery scheduled for February. She had a portion of her liver embolized hoping that the removal of the cancerous portion of her liver might buy her more time. However, a week before her surgery, CT scans found that the cancer had spread like wildfire and she is now no longer a surgery candidate. Although she has continued to get different infections and has fought valiantly, the toll on her body and her immune system has taken its course.
This is such an aggressive cancer and is spreading so much faster than anticipated. The little time we were originally given has now been cut even shorter. Our friends and family have been a great help with showing her love and trying to keep her spirits high.
As she continues to fight each of her remaining days of her battle, she has shifted her focus from herself to the hardships that will be posed to her family. She worries about everything that is to come and the financial toll that her loved ones left behind will be left to bear. The finality of her life comes with so many unexpected medical costs and funeral arrangements. So we ask all of those who are reading this to please help her and us through this difficult time so that she has less to worry about and can pass knowing that she is not a financial burden to her family. Although we will never stop hoping for a miracle, we must plan for the eventuality that is coming.
Your generosity is humbly accepted. My mom and all who love her are grateful for any amount, and if you cannot afford it, please share this link. If you cannot share, please keep my mom and family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.
