My name is Ines Acevedo. On May 15, 2025, I went to the emergency room because of severe pain in my abdomen. That same day I was diagnosed with cancer in my uterus. I applied for Medi-Cal, but at that time I did not qualify and I was denied medical care.

As my cancer worsened, there came a point where I could no longer work the same hours and my income began to decrease. I applied for Medi-Cal again and this time I was approved. However, it was not until July 2025 that I was finally able to begin receiving treatment for my cancer.

On August 15, 2025, I was admitted to the hospital as an emergency, and from that moment my cancer treatment formally began. I started chemotherapy and was placed on medical disability. Since then I have not been able to work. The unemployment benefits I was receiving have already ended, and currently I am not receiving any income.

I am now in the process of applying for Social Security disability benefits. My doctor has already determined that I am disabled, but the approval process is long and I am still waiting for a decision. At this moment I have no other source of income.

I do not have family in this country. I do not have a husband or children. I need financial help to pay my rent, electricity, water, and other basic living expenses.

On Friday, March 13, 2026, I spoke with my oncologist and received very difficult news. The treatment has not worked and the tumor continues to grow. Because of this, the treatment will now need to be more aggressive. In addition to continuing chemotherapy, I will now also have to begin radiation therapy, which is a stronger treatment. This means I will be receiving both chemotherapy and radiation therapy at the same time. The side effects weaken me physically very much, and because of this I am not able to work.

At this time I am humbly asking for help. Any donation, no matter the amount, would mean so much and will go directly toward helping me pay for my rent, utilities, and basic living expenses while I continue fighting this illness.

Mi nombre es Ines Acevedo. El 15 de mayo de 2025 llegué a la sala de emergencias por un fuerte dolor en mi vientre. Ese mismo día fui diagnosticada con cáncer en mi matriz. Apliqué para recibir Medi-Cal, pero en ese momento no califiqué y me negaron la atención médica.

A medida que mi cáncer empeoraba, llegó un punto en el que ya no podía trabajar las mismas horas y mis ingresos comenzaron a disminuir. Volví a aplicar para Medi-Cal y esta vez fui aprobada. Sin embargo, no fue hasta julio de 2025 cuando finalmente pude comenzar a recibir tratamiento para el cáncer.

El 15 de agosto de 2025 fui internada de emergencia en el hospital, y a partir de ese momento comenzó formalmente mi tratamiento contra el cáncer. Empecé con quimioterapia y fui incapacitada médicamente. Desde entonces no he podido trabajar. Los fondos de desempleo que estaba recibiendo ya se terminaron y actualmente no estoy recibiendo ningún ingreso.

Ahora estoy en proceso de solicitar ayuda por discapacidad a través del Seguro Social. Mi doctora ya determinó que estoy incapacitada, pero el proceso de aprobación es largo y todavía estoy esperando una respuesta. En este momento no tengo ninguna otra fuente de ingresos.

No tengo familia en este país. No tengo esposo ni hijos. Necesito ayuda económica para poder pagar mi renta, la luz, el agua y otros gastos básicos.

El viernes 13 de marzo de 2026 hablé con mi oncóloga y me dio noticias muy difíciles. El tratamiento no ha funcionado y el tumor sigue creciendo. Debido a esto, el tratamiento ahora tendrá que ser más agresivo. Además de continuar con la quimioterapia, ahora también tendré que comenzar terapia de radiación, que es un tratamiento más fuerte. Esto significa que estaré recibiendo quimioterapia y radiación al mismo tiempo. Los efectos secundarios me debilitan mucho físicamente y por esa razón no puedo trabajar.

En este momento les pido humildemente su ayuda. Cualquier donación, sin importar la cantidad, significaría mucho para mí y será utilizada para ayudarme a pagar mi renta, mis servicios como la luz y el agua, y otros gastos básicos mientras continúo luchando contra esta enfermedad.
