Battle For Bettie
No one ever said growing old would be easy. Bettie has lived an active life up until her 90th birthday in 2017. Unfortunately, after her birthday she had numerous hospital stays for infections, falls, and a minor brain bleed. This led to the decision for her to move into an assisted living community that could fully care for her needs. It was a difficult decision to make as she had lived with her daughter and granddaughter for 21 years. She moved in with them when her son-in-law passed away to help raise her granddaughter.
However, the move has not been as smooth as they would have liked. In February, Bettie was hospitalized for an infection and had to go to rehab to regain her strength. On April 12th, Bettie fell in her bathroom and broke her right ankle in 4 places as well as dislocating it. The break was a compound fracture and she needed emergency surgery (Photos Below).
After leaving the hospital, she was moved into rehab. This is where things get worse, insurance has yet to pay for assisted living like they promised, and they also will not cover her rehab for her ankle. Medicare only paid for the first 100 days of her rehab, but she needs 4 to 6 more weeks.
Since Medicare has stopped paying, the rehab facility has tried to move Bettie out without giving her doctor, assisted living, or family any notice. The doctor did not authorize her move and assisted living did not approve her leaving. However, this did not stop the rehab facility from lying to her family and saying that the move back to assisted living was approved. The rehab facility did this without meeting her family to discuss a plan of care and without Bettie’s or the family’s knowledge.
The rehab facility told her family that now they must pay out of pocket for every day that Bettie is staying. This facility has lost Bettie and made her family search the building for her, they also did not feed Bettie the day they tried to move her without her family’s consent.
Her family has spent all their money and savings to pay for her care and now she needs help.
Your donation to Bettie’s cause goes to her surgery bills, medications, assisted living bills and rehab charges.
Bettie and her family thanks you for your donations and prayers.
Isaiah 46:4 “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
