Battle for Benjamins

This is never a story I thought I’d have to share, nor is it easy.  This January my dad was having thyroid complications to the point of being unable to breathe. He was admitted to Long Beach Memorial on February 7th where a biopsy was performed on the mass in his neck. I waited patiently for my uncle to call and update us with the diagnosis. Whenever you hear about cancer it’s always a friend of a friend, the mailman’s mother, never in a million years did I think it would be someone close to me, let alone my dad. How do you pull yourself together to be the strength when they’ve been your rock? The diagnosis came back as Non Hodgkins B cell lymphoma. He was then intubated and sedated for 8 days to reduce the swelling because his windpipe was compromised. Heart wrenching is the only word that comes to mind thinking about my dad being intubated not being able to communicate his thoughts, emotions after his life was forever changed. As happy we are that this a treatable cancer(how sad is it that this the silver lining), the chemo is taking its toll on his health. He was recently admitted back to the hospital trying to fight fevers and keep his white blood cell count up. Without health insurance the expenses have become a medical mountain, along with normal day to day cost of life. The last thing anyone fighting for their life should worry about is keeping food on the table for their family or the electricity on. If you know my dad then you know he’s the hardest working man, but every once in a while even those people need help.  Anything and everything would be helpful.
