A Persian, female victim of assault and her parents need our dire help.
The victim is a brilliant young lady who moved to the United States two years ago to pursue her PhD degree in Computer Engineering. Unfortunately, terrible things have happened to her recently.
In September 2020, her unconscious body was found near Venice beach in LA. She was severely injured and was immediately moved to ICU at Ronald Reagan hospital. The LAPD has reported her case as sexual assault and attempted murder by a suspect, drug addict who is now arrested. During the past two months, she has had several brain surgeries. She is now in a rehabilitation center where she is slowly regaining her basic physical abilities. She still has open wound in her scalp and is waiting for more upcoming surgeries.
Being an international student has not made life any easier for her. Her insurance is not comprehensive and barely covers the unbearable costs of her medical operations and treatments. Also, when all these happened, she was alone. Her parents were back in Iran and devastated to do something for their beloved daughter. In the face of travel restrictions due to COVID-19, her parents had to go through a long, exhausting and costly process to make it to the United States embassy in Turkey and request for an emergency visa. Luckily, they were finally able to get their visa and come to the US.
They arrived in LA just a few days ago, with little financial support and no close family or friend to support them. They also do not have a good command of English and must rely on the assistance of others to follow up with their beloved daughter’s situation.
At this point, the parents need our immediate help for housing, cost of living and medical expenses while their daughter goes through her upcoming surgeries and fully recovers from this trauma. Doctors estimate this can easily take up to six months.
It can be incredibly hard to ask for help for ourselves. This is why I am asking you for help on their behalf. I personally met with the parents today. What they are going through is devastating and painful. It breaks my heart. Let us all help them as much as we can to alleviate their pain.
