Humanitarian Relief For Baton Rouge

Donation protected
The people of Baton Rouge need your help!!

The great state of Louisiana and Tiki Island Radio go way back..... in fact, if it weren't for Louisiana we may not be on the air today.

You see....back when Lady Kim and I started Tiki Island Radio, no one really knew who we were or gave a rats behind about our mission statement "lending a hand to lift a heart"......but the people of Louisiana were very tuned in to what we were saying.  After all......they've been weathering storms and lending a hand to lift a heart for each other since the dawn of time.

The love and support from the people of Louisiana for the little radio station with a big heart was enormous. In fact, it catapaulted Tiki Island Radio into the international spotlight. The spotlight is now on you Baton Rouge.

Long story short..... We were flown in to Lake Charles, Louisiana for our very first remote broadcast for 7 days with The Buccaneers of Lake Charles for the Contraband Days Fundraising Festival. We landed with a suitcase full of rag tag equipment and tangled cables. We were horrified to find out that Louisiana Radio ( the highest authority in radio in Louisiana) was waiting for us on the set so they could hook up our connection to a satellite dish and beam up the broadcast to a Capital One Satellite.....We were terrified, but the people of Louisiana reassured us that everything "was gonna be alrigh". They had our backs, they put us at ease and told us to "go out there and show the world what ya got!!"

If it weren't for the reassuring level of confidence they instilled in us,  we would have never survived that broadcast or all the years in radio, radio tours, live remotes and the thousands of miles of travelling to host those shows.

It is with sincere gratitude that Lady Kim and I thank you Louisiana.

Now it's our turn to reassure you that everything is gonna be ok. We've got your back Baton Rouge. The little radio station that you catapaulted into the international spotlight has a returned a bigger station with an even bigger heart and we're here to help.

I've asked all our broadcasters on The Tiki Island Radio Network to come up with creative shows, broadcast advertisements, and to call upon their utmost creativity to help raise money for humanitarian relief in Baton Rouge.

I'm asking all of our listeners (ohana: Hawaiian for family) to share this link far and wide. Now is the time to show the world what it means to be a Tiki Islander.

The entire donation process from start to finish will be extremely transparent. The money will be given to an ambassador of Tiki Island Radio and will be personally delivered. Counsel is being given by Mr. Tim Schroeder of Baton Rouge. He is at ground zero and will best direct us regarding what agency or officials this money will be given to. Post follow up will be shared with everyone via social media and radio broadcast.

On behalf of all the cast n crew here on the island and listeners around the world.....our hearts are with you Baton Rouge, and the heart and soul of Tiki Island Radio will be forever be deeply rooted in the great state of Louisiana.

Sincerely,

Johnny B. (& Lady Kim)
Founders, The Tiki Island Radio Network

Following is an excerpt from my discussion with Tim Schroeder, currently at ground zero:....... Much appreciated. South Louisiana is resilient and helps each other. Staying strong. Has its hard times though... seeing the faces of elder people who lost everything they worked their whole life for and unable to get a grip on it more less start their recovery and the face of the kids who's little world are turn upside and are scared and feel helpless... for me those are the 2 hardest things to deal with now.

Keep moving on and helping folks one kind act at time and taking it one day at a time.

Thanks for putting word out there. A week ago most folks outside the area didn't even know what was going on.

I've seen allot of hardship on faces but even more so I've seen neighborhood helping neighborhoods and folks coming out to lend a hand. It's things like that I hope my kids will remember...
