Congolese dancer with a chance to train in Togo

Donation protected
This week I found out that I was accepted into sol'oeil d'Afrik's  Choreographic Interpretation Training Course in Togo, Africa. They are covering all of my expenses while I'm in Togo but there are many expenses I have to cover myself and I could really use your help.

If you're reading this we're probably friends but just in case here's a little bit about me.

I'm Baptista Kawa aka B-boy Bathy and I'm a dancer from Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. I'd say my style is a mix of breakdance power moves, flip combinations, contemporary, and Afro-Fusion Hip-Hop.

As a teenager I'd sneak into my classroom after school and practice the dance moves I saw in movies. I'm largely self-taught and have been able to take short master classes with teachers over the years but this will be my FIRST TIME in a multi-week intensive training program.

I started competing in battles 8 years ago and here are some of the highlights:

Hip-Hop Winner at Nyege Nyege Festival Online (Uganda)/2020
All-Style Winner at Battle Hope (Rwanda)/2020
Hip-Hop Winner at Goma Dance Festival (DRC)/2017 & 2019
Hip-Hop Winner at Danse ya Kivu Battle (DRC)/2017 & 2018
Krump Winner at Batalo East (Uganda)/2017 & 2018
All-Style Winner at CIFF (DRC)/2015
Group Battle Winner with New Youngs Crew at Mabina Fara Fara (DRC)/2013
Top 4 Africa/Middle East at BBIC World Final Online (Korea)/2020
Top 16 Worldwide Breakdance at Breakfree Worldwide Online (USA)/2020

I've been  a member of Street Dancers Company, the top urban afro-fusion and contemporary dance company in DRC since 2012 and have performed all over East Africa and DRC with the company.

I also teach Afro-Fusion at Street Studio and Hip Hop and Breakdance to local youth at Kuyakujuwa Dance Project.

THESE ARE THE EXPENSES I NEED TO COVER

Round-trip airfare: $1400 (it will be my first time on an airplane!)
Visa: $95
Health Insurance: $35
Yellow Fever Vaccine: $155
Covid Tests (both in DRC & Togo): $40 DRC & $75 Togo

-------------------

I make all of my money from performing and teaching dance. As you can imagine  I'm grateful for the support I've received from the incredible people I've been able to connect with over the years through my dancing . Getting into this program is a huge opportunity for me to grow as an artist and learn from dancers and choreographers from other countries in Africa and I'm excited to pay it forward to the youth in my country when I return.

Thanks,
Bathy
