BATHE URBAN PDX~ an urban retreat
Bathe Urban PDX is an accessible urban retreat for everyone in Portland. An inclusive, safe, welcoming spa and sauna for everyone seeking an opportunity to relax in a unique and beautiful environment. A destination in and of itself, Bathe Urban plans to be the largest soaking and sauna facility in Portland - right downtown. A luxurious peaceful experience attainable by all. An Oasis in the chaos.
Spearheading this project is serial entrepreneur, Jocelyn Badalich, who after having her first experience in Finland over 20 years ago, has been a dedicated spa enthusiast. Jocelyn, in addition to forming her own luxury cashmere fashion line Futa Kashmir, applied her extensive creativity into 15 years of experience working in the Spa industry as a hair stylist. Her partner, Adam Reinstrom utilizes his degree in Interior Design at his current position at Design within Reach, a company focused on making authentic modern design accessible. As repeated visitors at every local sauna in town, they have voiced their frustration at cost, lines, accessibility and overall culture.
Recently, a trip to Europe left them inspired after visiting a sauna in Berlin. Here they felt welcomed and relaxed in a spa that was an actual destination. They felt a climate and culture they wanted to emulate and reproduce here in Portland, and the idea of Bathe Urban came into fruition.
More than simply an idea, under the tutelage of this dynamic, creative and determined duo, it quickly steamrolled into a project on a timeline.
An incredible oasis first requires the dream location, and this has already been acquired. A beautiful, 100+ year old brick building in Chinatown on 4th and Everett in Portland, surrounded by history, gritty city, glossy high rises, diversity and culture, it already exemplifies our desire to create an oasis for everyone.
Our plan is to retain as much of its original- historic exterior, and restructure the interior in a non-toxic and sustainable way. Ideas we hope to incorporate include an indoor herb garden, rain harvesting, refurbished paneling while the actual spa and sauna will include UV treated soaking pools and locally harvested wood saunas.
To succeed at this plan, we have aligned ourselves with the local architecture team at HARKA- www.harkahq.com. With their reputation for superior low carbon architecture and life styling, their innovative designs are key to this project's success. Harka is able to clearly illustrate the narrative we need for our investors to feel confident in this vision.
Bathe Urban success depends on every step in the process being done right.
This begins with designing a schematic for the contractor that takes into account the age of the building. Our building has the bones and foundation to be a stunning work of public art. Harka has the skill set and integrity needed to get the job done right.
Once we have the design schematic ready we hire a contractor. When we reach this point in the project, we have a private investor who has committed to funding the first $500K needed to begin tenant improvement, which includes details like ceilings, walls, flooring, partitions, security, fire protection and more.
This is where you come in! We need the community to help us raise the initial $20K to hire Harka for the design and schematics. And an additional $25K for our deposit and city permits. Going through the banking system is complicated lengthy and disconnected. And we need to start this immediately!
To stay on schedule to launch in Jan 2021, we need to raise this money by April 20th, 2020.This project is for the community and we want to build that community, starting with you! We have already met with Harka and developed a plan, so as soon as we can raise this money we can start designing and building your new sauna and bathhouse!
~Pay it forward~
