Bataan Memorial Death March - Umich ROTC
Donation protected
In collaboration with the University of Michigan Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) and the United States Army, as a team of 5 highly motivated cadets, we will be taking part in the annual Bataan Memorial Death March, a 26.2 mile march (a marathon) through the high desert terrain of the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico on March 17, 2018.
To add to the challenge, this is a ruck march meaning all participants carry a 35 lb. backpack. The memorial march is conducted in honor of the heroic service members who defended the Philippine Islands during World War II, sacrificing their freedom, health, and in many cases, their lives.
Over the past semester, we have dedicated extra time out of our busy school schedules to train for this event on top of attending all other mandatory ROTC trainings and classes. During our spare time, we are preparing our minds and bodies for this intense experience through additional lifting, running, and rucking workouts. Truly, we are pushing ourselves to become more proactive and engaged leaders in our upcoming service to this nation.
However, we cannot achieve our team goals without additional support. Your assistance will help us register for the march, travel to and from New Mexico, and purchase the necessary food and drink supplies to keep us safe during the event. Additionally, it will help the University of Michigan ROTC program afford to send cadets to this event on an annual basis.
Please consider donating $1 for each mile we will be marching. We truly appreciate any amount that you can contribute to help us meet our goal.
Every cent raised will be responsibly spent to help offset the costs of the expenses listed above. Ultimately, with your help, we can focus on accomplishing our collective goal with little to no cost barriers.
Thank you for your time and consideration. If you would like more information on the march, please visit https://bataanmarch.com/
Additional information:
We follow a 7-day training plan, and we have been doing so since the last week of November 2018. With the race quickly approaching, we have begun our tapering phase to keep our minds and legs fresh.

Pictured below is just one of the ruck marches we have done in preparation for the upcoming race.
