Sunday 10/6 Update
Thank you for the incredible outpouring of support and donations to the small community of Bat Cave. This event has brought people together across thousands of miles, from our friends and neighbors in the Keys all the way to Canada. We just wanted to say thank you for sharing, thank you for praying, thank you for telling your friends about this catastrophe and thank you for continuing to send messages of positivity.

The money has gone extra far and the boxes of goods were distributed on the ground to victims. More supplies continue to be delivered to the surrounding area as more residents and pets are evacuated. There are few people left in Bat Cave keeping watch over what is left of their homes and their neighbor’s homes, but your donations helped them directly in their time of need.

Imagine having lost your home and all of your possessions, then starting from scratch. Please know that every dollar you gave was and continues to be used for victims to get them through as they begin again. Catastrophic events like this take years to recover from, especially considering the topography and length of time it will take to repair roads and bridges.

Once again, we cannot thank you enough. We are close to our goal of $5,000, at which time we will close the fundraiser.

Love, Katie and Bill

As many of you are aware, Western North Carolina has been devastated by Hurricane Helene. The unincorporated community of Bat Cave is one of many severely impacted by torrential rains and flooding which wiped out buildings, roads and bridges. The community is facing a major recovery effort that has just begun and they need our help. All money donated will go directly to the people of Bat Cave via goods and/or straight up dollars in their bank accounts. Many people, like my sister and brother-in-law, are feeling the impacts of this catastrophic disaster. We are putting this fundraiser together to bring some relief to them and their neighbors.

If you can spare even $1 it will go into the hands of the people who need it most right now. If you can't, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Those are powerful too.

Appalachian people are resilient and deeply connected to their communities and traditions. Let us help them in their time of need.
