Prayers & Support for the Bastiens

Donation protected

This gofundme was created by Luxury Designs to help finance medical costs for our friends Jim and Cindy Bastien and family as both were hospitalize in such a short time of each other.  Please join us in helping support this wonderful family through their healing process.

On August 25, 2016, my Dad (Jim Bastien) was flown from Williston to Minot for emergency surgery due to an Upper GI Bleed. Williston Hospital didn’t have the resources to handle his medical issue and the doctors didn’t think that he would make the flight to Fargo (because of the amount of blood that he had already lost, was continuing to lose and how fast he was continuing to lose it). Once he arrived in Minot, he underwent emergency surgery. Dad ended up coding while he was in the OR. The doctors were able to stabilize him and prepare him to be life flighted to the U of M in Minneapolis.

My Mom (Cindy Bastien), brother (Ryan Bastien) and I (Cari Stiyer) made the 8-hour drive not knowing if our Dad would be alive once we got there. He was given 18 units of blood in flight and was in very critical condition once he reached the U of M. His health started declining and the doctors were giving him a 5% survival rate. We had to place my Dad on the DNR list and was taking his survival in 12 hour intervals. He started making slow improvements after a few weeks and slowly started to recover.

My Mom spent almost 8 weeks in a hotel. We had to buy new clothes in Minneapolis as we left with the clothes on our back. Eating was also another expense. After 8 weeks, my Dad was transferred by ambulance to Fargo where he was admitted into Vibra Healthcare for rehabilitation. He was released on the 21st of October. My dad wasn’t ready to leave the hospital as he was still very weak and had lost a lot of weight due to being on the ventilator for so long. Medicare stopped paying for hospital stay after 60 days of admission and we couldn’t afford to keep him there any longer.  Hotel costs and medical bills were becoming a huge expense at this point.

On October 25th, 2016, my Mom (Cindy Bastien) was taken by ambulance from Family Fare in West Fargo. She suffered from a ruptured brain (left side of the brain) aneurysm and stroke. They had to do a craniotomy to clip the ruptured aneurysm to get the bleeding stopped.  Again, my Mom was also given a 5% survival rate. She was in medically induced a coma for 3 weeks. She had to have a trachea and feeding tube put in. After 5 weeks in the ICU, she was moved to Sanford Rehabilitation. I brought her home the last week of November.

On January 24th, 2017, my Mom underwent another craniotomy as they found another aneurysm but this time on the right side of her brain. Luckily, it was caught before it had ruptured. She had a short stay in the ICU and then was brought to her home in West Fargo to recover. I have been with my parents since the end of October taking care of them while my husband is back home in Williston with our children. We have had zero income and hospital bills are continue to pile up (due to insurance not wanting to pay) for both parents. In a 2-month span, my brother and I almost lost both of our parents. In a 3 months’ span, my Mom underwent 2 major brain operations. Two brain surgeries are very expensive and the medical bills are continuing to roll in for both parents. This is becoming a huge Burdon as they both are trying to heal. My parents are having a hard time staying focused on their recovery as they are very worried financially.
