The Bassmans Need a Home

Donation protected
My parents and I have fought hard to prevent the loss of our home, but we’ve run out of time. We will be facing homelessness if we can’t find and move into a new home by the end of May.

Our family has endured a lot in the past few years. My dad, David, has survived three heart attacks with negligible aftercare, and now lives battling late-stage heart failure and COPD. My mom, Dawn, works through incurable migraines and chronic pain stemming from a car accident in 2016. Both are under an incredible amount of stress, and are unable to work full-time. My grandmother, Liz, who helped us to stay afloat financially, passed away last year on Easter. Even our dog, Paladin, has survived a nasty fungal infection that would have killed him without expensive medicine.

My mom works part-time as an administrative assistant and as a seamstress. I recently started working as an assistant teacher, and I’ll be teaching full-time starting in the Fall. Soon we’ll be in a position to scrape together rent and utilities for a new home, but we’re going to need the support of our community to make it there. As the years have piled on hardship after hardship, we’ve realized that we really can’t do this alone anymore. We’re proud of having made it this far, and now we’re ready to ask for your help.

With your help, we will be able to:
— put down a security deposit on our new home
— pay for our first month of rent and utilities
— keep our beloved dog, Paladin, and our tolerable cat, Socrates
— buy boxes and packing materials
— pay the movers (including heroic friends who help us pack and move)
— keep food on the table and gas in the tank

As soon as we’re situated in a new house, we will get to work on fulfilling our donation incentives, which include:
— tutoring sessions
— homemade clothing and quilts
— mending and alterations
— screenplay consultation
— baking lessons
— scrapbooks
We’re more than happy to lend you our skills to show how much we appreciate your generosity. (In fact, it makes us feel a lot more comfortable asking for charity!)

Any amount you can offer, even a dollar, would not only help us find a place to live, but would also let us know that we’re not in this fight alone. Thank you so much!
