Help pay for Bella's surgery

Tax deductible

We have some bad news about Bella...it could have been a lot worse. Also a cautionary tale for everyone. Bella ingested about half a corn cob about 4-5 weeks ago. It was totally my (Matt Albert's) bad... looked away for one second while she seemed totally preoccupied with a toy and next thing I know... she had chewed and swallowed it. We kept an eye on her, took her to the vet at about that time, and were told she was fine. Three days ago, she began throwing up. Soon, she was literally leaking blood from her backside and her vitals were dropping.

Her adopter was on it immediately and yesterday Hamburg Village Vet performed emergency surgery... she's gonna be OK!!! The cob had dislodged to her colon and she could have died. Our pocketbook... well that is still pretty banged up to the tune of 6,000... 4500 for the surgery and about 2K for the emergency vets she was at before we transferred her to Hamburg, where they are pretty excellent. Green Acres charged us like 1700 for a couple X-rays and fluids. Anyway.... if anyone can help, we would be greatly appreciative! Bella's adopter is amazing and didn't leave the parking lot while she was in surgery, praying the whole time. This happened on my watch and I'm not letting him pay anything, even though he is more than willing to.

Cautionary tale: We prioritize safety and have created an environment where dogs who have bitten before no longer do, and everyone is safe. And yet... the goddamn corn cob got us. Learn what things are very harmful to dogs, and make sure they don't have access to them. Death lurks around every corner in animal rescue... we need to be vigilant in protecting our angels.
