My whole life I have been raised to work hard for what I want, this isn’t something I have time to save for though so I’m overcoming my pride to share with you the story of Basil, in hopes some can donate to help fund her surgery.
July of 2021 my father and two daughters had me drive them to get some “milk”. Once on the road I learned this wasn’t the case. The “milk” was actually English Crème Golden Retriever puppies. Dad had been dying for years from COPD and a lung mass they couldn’t safely biopsy but said was most likely cancer, so anything he wanted I did. The place we pulled into seemed like a nice house, but there were 7 different breeds of puppies available and we realized this was a puppy mill. We brought home the smallest two puppies out of the liter of 14, one for each of my daughters. Our Cinco De Mayo babies, born May 5th 2021. When my vet first checked them out we had already noticed Basil was leaking urine when she slept. The vet was hopeful she would grow out of it after some time. After too many UTIs to count Basil had her first heat cycle, the vet had hopes that would stop the incontinence, it did not. The next step was to schedule an appointment with MedVets internal medicine to get an ultrasound, quoted at 2k. During this time Basils owner Penelope, my youngest daughter, was diagnosed with Chiari malformation with a syrinx, her brain was too big for her skull and there was a Cerebellum filled cyst between two of the vertebrates in her neck. I had to quit my job at a daycare because Penelope couldn’t attend until after she had surgery. August 25th 2022, Penelope had brain surgery at five years old, turned six in the hospital and was released but then went septic a week later and we stayed in the hospital until mid September. She missed the first week of kindergarten but in late November was fully cleared to go back to normal activities! Dad died on November 2, 2022. Basil tore her CCL, which is like a humans ACL, November 19th and the vet said we couldn’t do anything other than pain meds to help her until after the internal issue was fixed because the leaking urine would get into the leg’s incision and cause so many more problems. After saving enough money I made the ultrasound appointment for January 19, 2023 and paid 1,617 for them to learn exactly what’s wrong with her. She has an Ectopic Ureter. One of her uterine lines does not connect into her bladder where it should. They need to do a cystoscopy to see exactly where the ureter goes in her bladder the same day as the surgical procedure to take that line and insert it into the top of her bladder. Spaying her and possibly also adding a silicone tube around her sphincter if they find it is not squeezing like it should. The picture shows the vet estimate to be anywhere between 5200 and 8700 for this specific surgery. The CCL surgery called a TPLO has been quoted for 3950 which covers medicines and everything for her leg to become fully functional again.
In total I need 9,150 to 12,650 for Basil to have her quality of life return. This dog is not just a pet she is literally family and I wish I could take her problems as my own. Honestly I don’t even want to make this or ask for help but I HAVE to. I have to do everything I can for Basil and that meant pushing my pride aside to create this. Please will you share this to your friends and family to help Basil. To anyone that can donate I want you to understand how much I truly appreciate it and love you. Thank you for taking your time to read Basils story.
