BASIL KING - The Next Generation of R Rated Comedy
Donation protected
Do you miss the old 90s and 2000s r rated comedies that were raw like we do? They overstepped boundaries, were stupid as hell, but there was such an innocence to them that made them funny as f*ck and comedies today aren’t made like that anymore. If you miss these R rated, blue collar comedies, well we’re bringing them back with BASIL KING.
BASIL KING, the next generation of R Rated Comedy, is a dark comedy mafia satire tv series that revolves around an egocentric crime boss and his two overzealous goombahs as they are thrown into more debt than they could possibly get out of.
If "Goodfellas" had a baby with "Eastbound & Down" and that baby was raised by "Tropic Thunder"... you'd get BASIL KING.
PILOT SYNOPSIS:
A late night business meeting results in the brutal murder of a pizzeria owner, and three overzealous gangster wannabes are forced to dispose of the body. But they are about to come to terms with their lack of expertise as one wrong move thrusts all three of them into a grave too deep to climb out.
WHY DONATE TO BASIL KING?
Film is an important art form that must be preserved. This statement is one that has been repeated a thousand times and will be a thousand more. Although true, such a statement fails to communicate why it is important.
In our modern day and age, film has thrived into something beautiful. So many passionate artists have been provided the freedom to speak their truth and give insight into their reality in the way they see fit. However, these freedoms are not given to every idea, or even every genre.
Comedy has been extremely regulated and even diluted in mainstream productions, who say it’s not serious enough to be given the freedoms that would otherwise be given to a project of a more severe subject matter. This is a great loss to the genre of comedy!
In response to the question of what makes comedy important, Ryan Castro, producer and co-writer of Basil King, says, “We take ourselves too seriously. Comedies like Blazing Saddles and Tropic Thunder stand the test of time because they laugh at and mock everyone. And yeah, it’s not for everyone, but the audience that gets it has a chance to see the silliness of serious issues, and let the fear and anger subside.”
This project is extremely important to the world of comedy because, as stated by co-writer and producer, Taylor Fredricks, “[Basil King] is a genre of comedy that has become a lost art. No one makes comedies like this because of the fear of being canceled or what people may think of them as filmmakers. With this, we’re bringing the R-rated comedy back in the spotlight!”
Taylor Fredricks and Ryan Castro are both award-winning producers and actors who brought you Jimmy Arcurio Presents: “Rebel Without a Beer”, which is the proud winner of 4 awards, including Best Actor (Taylor Fredricks), and Best Comedy. And they are looking to do it again with your generous contribution!
