$30k in 5-days .... are you in?
We really weren't planning to do a crowdfund . . . The work is almost complete on the build-out but due to some unforeseen costs (beyond the proposed budget), we need an extra $30k to help finish.
How Can You Help? (We hope) we made it as simple and transparent as possible. We’ve modified the typical "fund-me pledge model" for "meal vouchers". That way you can pledge the exact monetary equivalent, so $50 is $50 to spend in the restaurant (we're offering vouchers for meals). Think of it as buying pre-tickets to a concert or a movie or a pop-up dinner.
My name is Kayla Rippee and I'm the girl behind Basil & Bourbon ... I was born in Springfield, MO to dairy and hog farming parents. As a child of the '70s I grew up in my parent's restaurant. I had my first job at seven years old - washing dishes. I considered it child labor at the time and "voiced" it often - my mother seen it differently - looking back now, I do too. For those that have been around awhile - yes, I'm one of those Winder girls.

ABOUT US ... We believe that the best food travels the shortest distance. That the menu should change regularly with the seasons and from locally sourced ingredients. Everything is made from scratch in-house and this includes, for example, fresh bread, all stocks and sauces, ice creams and desserts. We strive to be more than just another restaurant .... but also, a gathering place for those who have a love for "all things local" and a deep passion for amazing food.
OUR GOAL ... is to serve our community as a gathering place with a comfortable blend of neighborhood charm. Dedicated to the enjoyment of eating and drinking.
WHAT'S ON THE MENU? As a Farm to Fork bistro, we work with a network of small farmers. Our chef creates a menu that changes some every day and highlights the region's culinary traditions as well as its agricultural bounty. The menu will feature bistro-style dishes, such as garlic butter creamed corn chicken, classic duck in wild rice, crispy beef short ribs, pan-fried feta with peppered honey, spinach and tomato fondue, spicy chickpea and cheese stuffed zucchini, as well as bread baked on-site and our signature desserts.
The all-day menu at the bar will feature classic Mid-West dishes, items such as beer bratwurst, casseroles, fried cheese curds, house-made chips, potato skins, loose meat sandwiches, salads, pasties, and burgers.

Why $30K ... That's what we need to purchase the tables, small-wares, starting inventory ... the last of the items to get opened!
Note: All money raised from the crowdfunding goes into the opening of the restaurant (every single penny).

WHAT'S THE RUSH? We need the money now. During the build, things came up that we weren't expecting. (It's an old building and needed more updates then anticipated) We're $30k short and with bills to pay we need some money asap to get opened, which is why we're hoping to do "$30k in 5 days" (plus it's kinda catchy and 3-days was voted down).
Having exhausted all of the traditional lending options and a few non-traditional ones, too. We thought, "surely we have a few 100 friends and supporters that might give a little to make this dream a reality and bring amazing food to Bolivar, MO". What we really hope to discover is that many more people in Bolivar have been longing to have a restaurant in our area that provides the culture, the sustainability, and most importantly the food that will be offered. In one sense, this is a call for support of a personal dream.
How Can You Help? If you've read this far. Thank you. We hope we've made it as transparent as possible. We are basically just selling vouchers in advance. Think of it as buying pre-tickets to a pop-up dinner only you get to determine the price, so $50 gets you $50 on a meal. You will receive an e-voucher to the email address registered to GoFundMe once the campaign has been completed.
Join the dream! Pledge now, even if it's just a share and words of encouragement. Then come along for the grassroots journey with our updates to the project, and enjoy the food and camaraderie when we open!
We cannot do this without you. We need your help. Please pledge and spread the word - tell others of our wish to cook for them. Think of your contribution as essentially buying dinner ahead of time ... More importantly, you're supporting a local business, jobs, growing the tax base, enriching our community with a lasting contribution to what makes our town such a great place to live. Our goal is to be in and operating no later than September 2019, but we're hopeful it to be sooner. Everyone who backs this project will receive updates with photos of our progress, making you the "first to know" all of the latest news about our highly-anticipated opening!
Risk and Challenges . . . Inspections, licenses, regulations can all throw up potential problems.
No project is without bumps in the road, but the risks are limited as we already have the site, part of our lead staff, and we know how much we need to finish the project. We just need a final push to get us to the finish line.
