"Basic Needs" Spoken Word Short - Healing thru Art

Exploring the parallel between how we nurture ourselves, how we nurture plants, and how routine helps us cater to our basic needs; through a spoken word short film.
DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE:
The pandemic has been difficult for everyone & has caused many to look past the absolute bare minimum needs that keep us in good health & sound mind. By supporting this project you can help share a message of camaraderie in times of hardship.
Nature is beautiful and we as people are Divine. After expressing this idea to a few friends, they connected with the understanding immediately and shared their own experiences with self-neglect, anxiety, and depression. Personally, the beauty of routine has strengthened my mental health. The visions we will be producing will allow everyone involved to heal through the power of creation and hopefully help viewers do the same.
AT THE CENTER:
Womxn, BIPOC, and Gender Nonconforming individuals are at the core of this project as we are often a marginalized community, enduring the brunt of societal expectations. Basic Needs is a direct message to anyone struggling to self-care and hope it allows people to find power in community and truly connect with the idea that routinely caring for ourselves is self-worth realized.
PRODUCTION DETAILS:
The poetic short film will be approximately 3 minutes long and include 4-5 subjects in 3 locations. Our creative team is pushing the boundaries of their imagination with visions like: a human-sized tank holding one subject bound by her rotting roots then juxtaposing to her freely stretched out in a body of water surrounded by blossoming flowers. Production design will entail hundreds of flowers (both real and fake) to create a grandiose environment in which our subjects can find comfort in expressing their vulnerability. All flowers and plants will be donated to BIPOC & LGBTQ+ individuals once filming is complete. Every portion of this film will be originally produced and exhibit the talents of a diverse cast and crew.
Filming will take place Mid-July 2021 over the course of 2 days in Los Angeles.
Our goal is to create a visionary piece that will be submitted and hopefully accepted to the Sundance Film Festival as well as other prestigious festivals that can aid in the growth of our careers. Not to mention expressing ourselves through our art and putting our heart on the screen for others to connect with, grow, and find inspiration from.
