Basha Winterguard Gym Floor Protection
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Zeth Shirley, I am the current colorguard director at Basha High School (Chandler, AZ). For many years we have had to hold rehearsals on uneven concrete due to unreliable access to facilities at our school. The only facility at the school that is able to hold us is our school’s gym. Unfortunately, the only way that we are able to hold rehearsals in the gym is if we have padded protection for the floor. After many conversations and attempts, we have found that the only solution is to purchase carpet bonded foam rolls that are specially for us to use.
After many years of constant rehearsal on concrete, students are becoming injured due to the constant dancing and activity on the concrete. Our students have suffered concussions, injured ankles, injured shins, and much more because of the rehearsal conditions. There have been many occasions in which we were not able to rehearse due to weather. Our vinyl tarp has practically flown away because of wind numerous times despite our efforts to keep it down. Students are becoming more and more injured as time goes on.
At first look, $10,000 seems a little ambitious. This is not a short-term goal for us. We plan on taking as long as we need to ensure the safety and well-being on our students.
Would you have the basketball team practice on the field, or would you have the swim team practice in the gym? We want to see our students succeed and the way to do this is to be in the conditions in which we compete in. These foam rolls will help our students succeed in their goals as well as ensuring their safety.
If you are unable to donate, all that we ask is that you share our story.
