Base Camp for Blue Acre
Blue Acre Horse Rehabilitation centre is an independent charity in Old Windsor that has become very dear to me since moving to the area in 2019.
Operating on 40 acres of land caring for 50 horses very much hand to mouth is a task in itself at the best of times and even more so during the previous few years dealing with pandemics and heightened costs across the board from fuel , food and general living.
The vast majority of our funding comes from the kindness of the general public and their donations.
As you can imagine, caring for 100 animals isn't cheap. Feed and veterinary costs take up most of our funds and thats before we have looked at diy to repair tired stables and barns or replacing old fencing.
Having now finalised flights my plan is fly to Kathmandu landing on 12th October 2024. From there I will embark upon a trek to Everest Base Camp and back.
The trail begins straight after landing in the Hillary Tenzing airport of Lukla which claims to be the most dangerous airport in the world. I will hike for 13 days averaging 6 hours a day and covering a grand total of 130 kilometres whilst increasing altitude.
Travelling and staying in some of the most remote villages in the world and meeting Nepali locals and experiencing something I have never experienced before.
On the 22nd of October 2024 (which happens to be my second wedding anniversary) I will follow the footsteps of many famous mountaineers into Everest Base Camp. The following morning we will wake at 2am trek another few hours in the darkness to a summit named Kala Patthar (5644 metres above sea level) and witness the sun rise behind the might Mount Everest.
And from there I will just turn around and wander the whole way back then eventually landing in Heathrow on the 28th.
I really hope you may be able to spare a few pounds for the charity that has helped me so much over the years. The trip itself is 100% self funded and I hope to be able to update on progress daily through the Blue Acre social media channels.
Thank you for taking the time to read my plea.
