Our beloved little Bartuś is only 3.5 years old, and his life has been marked by a diagnosis that paralyzes every family member with fear... Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a cruel, fatal disease that step by step takes away muscle strength, leads to loss of independent breathing, and premature death...
Bartuś is our precious little one. A cheerful, smiling little boy who infects us with his joy and carefree attitude every day. He is not aware of how cruel a future may await him. But we know - and every day we die of fear.
That's why we decided to start a fundraiser for gene therapy. It's only available in the USA, and its price is shocking... $4.5 million is the price for saving Bartuś!
Our little boy's problems became apparent in the first months of life. His parents felt something was wrong when Bartek's motor development was delayed. They visited many doctors and physiotherapists. They all agreed it was weakened muscle tone but couldn't point to its cause.
His parents rehabilitated him according to recommendations, but it didn't bring results. One day they came across a fundraiser for a boy with dystrophy on Siepomaga.pl (polish version of GoFundMe). They did tests that might indicate this disease. The results knocked them off their feet... But there was hope that maybe it wasn't that. Nobody admits to themselves that their beloved child might be terminally ill. Unfortunately, further tests confirmed the cruel diagnosis...
It's hard to recover from something like this, but we have to fight for our little one! He's a wonderful boy, very cheerful, able to joke about everything. He loves playing with children, is interested in volcanoes and geography. Unfortunately, his childhood can't be carefree; he increasingly has trouble performing activities that aren't a problem for children his age. He constantly asks his parents why his legs hurt, why he can't run...
In addition to gene therapy, Bartuś also needs intensive and expensive rehabilitation that will help him maintain muscle strength for as long as possible. Each hour of rehabilitation is not only a fight against the disease but also hope that his life will have more smiles, less pain.
