Barter & Shake Staff COVID-19 Relief Fund

To all our guests,

As of Tuesday, March 17th, 2020, both our bars and our restaurant concepts must close to the public, as Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego has announced a state of emergency forcing the closure of all bars.

We met with our team members this morning and made them aware of our personal decision to close to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 before this announcement. As we are sure you understand, this is a tough decision for us; as our staff's well-being and their future is a significant concern of ours.

In the hospitality industry, it's standard practice that restaurant and bar employees are paid minimum wage and rely heavily on tips from their guests to pay their bills. Our staff is no different, and our biggest concern through this uncertain time is ensuring that we can retain as many of our employees as possible and ride out the storm.

Effective immediately, all owners and managers are forfeiting salaries. We are paying our staff today to assist us in shutting down both our venues and offering them to cash out all the sick pay they have accumulated since they have begun working with us. We also provide health benefits for all our staff members and will continue covering their deductibles if they elect to stay employed by us. Lastly, with our restaurant, we have perishable food that we plan on distributing to all team members so that they have food available during their time at home. That being said, we're doing whatever we can in our power to provide resources to our staff; this includes links to other non-profits that are now offering grants as well as state-ran unemployment programs.

It's difficult for us to say, but unfortunately, attempting to maintain our payroll would be a detriment to our small business. Our entire staff will be forfeiting pay into the unforeseeable future until we can open our doors again and welcome your patronage.

Setting up the Go Fund Me is solely in response to numerous regular customers of ours, asking what they can do to help. We feel that it's essential we don't try to capitalize on this unfortunate situation and would prefer not to offer gift cards or merchandise for sale, but rather provide an option for our beloved customers to donate directly to our staff members.

100% of donations will be allocated directly to our hourly staff, front of house and kitchen staff so that they can continue paying their bills and buying food.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support of our businesses. We will continue monitoring the information provided to us by WHO, the CDC, and AZDHS, and plan to re-open as soon as it is safe to do so.

As one of our business brand pillars, we are committed to bring people together and experience world-class hospitality. We look forward to the other side of this difficult situation when we can all invite you back into our home.

Warmest regards,

Barter & Shake Creative Hospitality
