Hey, my name is Barry. I’m a trans hairstylist from Renton, WA. On June 28th, 2024 I suffered a pontine stroke in the left pons area of my brain. I suffered some defects in my right arm & leg. I went through months of physical therapy and occupational therapy until I was well enough to return to work. Unfortunately on April 2, 2025 I was hit with another pontine stroke but in the right pons of my brain this time affecting the left side of my body. This time it was much worse. I suffered deficits completely throughout my entire left side, head to toe. Luckily I didn’t lose any motor functions from either stroke, but I do have extreme dulled sensations in my extremities, loss of strength and extreme fatigue and brain fog. I’ve been back to physical therapy and occupational therapy which has been really helpful. I’ve graduated from occupational therapy and am still currently in physical therapy. I’m slowly recovering but my family has struggled during this time. My husband took time off of work thanks to FMLA to care for me, but that has run out and there is currently no work at the moment for him to return to. We’ve fallen behind on our rent as there has been no income coming in. He has been looking for work during this time, and I have just returned to work myself, though I’m not 100%. We are working with management at our apartment and contacted several rental assistant services for king county and are now waiting to hear back. My biggest priority is keeping the roof over our heads until we can get back on our feet. Please give if you can and share our story please. Thank you.
