Barry Navone's Circus Second Line

Donation protected
Barry Navone decided he was done with this world on September 9th, 2024, and left all of us behind without him, wounded by the departure of one of the most unique souls in any of our lives. Barry was deeply loved by such a staggering amount of people from all over the country, from all walks of life, but for the last 11 years New Orleans was where he chose to make his home, a home he loved with his whole heart. The loss for the family, friends, and community he found here, and the city that loved him back, is beyond words.

We have all been mourning him since the day it happened, but we also need to celebrate him. On Halloween, Thursday, October 31st, gathering point and time TBA, we will be doing that with a Second Line to bring his ashes to be placed on the graveyard shelf at The Abbey, and then continuing on to build an altar on the river to honor him, and our time with him and love for him. The Halloween second line will be circus themed, as is befitting the saddest chaos clown, so don your chaotic, weird, creepy circus best, and come give our boy a proper send off.

This fund is to facilitate that celebration of his life, to pay for the second line band, for materials for the altar and other art projects being made, and any other expenses for the second line. Anything left over from that will be donated to a cause that Barry cared about.

There is also a tribute show being held at Checkpoint Charlie's on Wednesday, October 30th, at 9pm. The lineup is comprised of Barry's friends and community: Banjo Jon, Dirty Rotten Snake In The Grass, Death Church, Juju, Trombone Squirty, and Sideshow Matt. There is no cover, but donations are encouraged.

Additionally, there will be t-shirts, stickers, and votive candles for him, both at the show and at the second line. Anyone who wants one can have shirts and stickers, but donations are welcome to cover the expense, and can be made through this gofundme, or in person. If you can't be in New Orleans for the second line and would like a t-shirt, sticker, or candle, please get in touch with me, and I'll see what I can do about sending things to you after Halloween.

One final note. Since Facebook makes a terrible digital cemetery, I would like to compile something like a memorial zine, to be printed in time for Barry's birthday, February 14th. And again, I'd be happy to send copies to folks who aren't local. I'd like to collect the beautiful tributes folks left on his Facebook wall, lots of photos, some of his own art and writing, and I would love if folks wanted to send me any photos they have of him, art they'd like to make, writing (stories, memories, eulogies, rants, songs, poems, anything related to his life or death), or anything else they'd like to contribute.
