Barry Has Rescued 1000’s – Now He Needs A Rescue of His Own
Barry B. Baker has dedicated his life to his family and saving others. As a 45+ year career Firefighter, Fire Chief, and Educator, he has transformed the lives of thousands of people around the nation. But now he needs our help.
In January 2019, Barry was rushed to the hospital with respiratory distress, which has since been diagnosed as a rare condition called bilateral diaphragm paralysis. The exact cause of his condition is still unknown. The impact, though, has been devastating to a normally active, and incredibly fit, man and his family. Diaphragm paralysis prevents Barry from being able to breathe on his own and requires 24/hour a day life support. He has already been hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit for four weeks, confined to a life-saving ventilator, and will require critical care physical and respiratory therapy when the time comes that he is stable enough for discharge. His will to fight is strong, and he’s slowly getting stronger every day, but he has a very long road to recovery ahead of him.
Barry is struggling right now, physically, mentally, and with the length of hospital stay unknown, the bills are quickly adding up. He needs our help.
He has already given so much to the community. Barry continues to be active in both the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the Florida Association of Fire Chiefs, where he served as President from 2007-2008. Most recently, he served the Bureau Chief at the Florida Fire College and continues to teach Fire Science courses at the University of Florida. He has worked alongside first responders in Ormond Beach, FL, Fairfax, VA, and Pittsburgh, PA since he was a teenager.
Please help rescue a man whose life’s passion has been rescuing others. Even the smallest donation can make a powerful impact.
