To anyone this may find.

My name is Jacob Barr, my wife is Linda (Nikkie), and we have four children. Our oldest son, Arkaiden, is 10, our second, Amara, is 6, and our newborn Twins, Atreyus and Arya. They were born 5 weeks and 4 days premature on April 15th.

Short Version.

On April 1st I took my son to the local ER from there he was flown out to the Le Bonhuer Children's Hospital in Memphis. He was put on a ventilator when he was originally diagnosed with rhino virus. We've had ups and downs from there.

Longer Timeline

April 30th- That night at home, Atreyus's Heart rate and SPo2(oxygen) monitor started to alert us to his O2 stat being low right before we got in bed. He looked fine so we had thought it was an error. We adjusted it and had no more problems throughout the night.

May 1st- While getting our older children ready for school, his O2 dropped again. But still, he looked fine. Took the sensor off for the day and went to work.

Later that day(after 2pm) My wife calls me crying saying Atreyus turned blue. I leave work and take him to the ER.

Once at the ER he continues to have "episodes" where his o2 dropped. He was flown out to Le Bonhuer and hour later. When we get in to the hospital to see him, he's on a ventilator and had tested positive for rhino virus.

May 2-7 In the week that followed, his condition changed day by day, for better and for worse.

May 8th. We've been told the top half of Atreyus's right lung has partially collapsed, and he developed bronchitis. Also he needed a bigger ventilator tube because the one he had was too small and causing a major leak up to 80% at times. After changing the tube they did a blood gas test, where they found his Co2 was extremely high, up into the 130s. They adjusted his vent settings to force some of it out and now the Co2 is coming down.

Work/Finances

I work at a local supply company doing phone/counter sales, making a little over $13 per hour. I started missing several days of work starting in February when my wife started showing early signs of preeclampsia.

Nikkie worked as a C.N.A., she was put on light duty in November then bed rest in February. We were doing ok while we both worked, but now it's getting a extremely difficult. I'll only have 18-20 hrs on my next biweekly check.

I also don't know when I will be going back. I'm afraid of losing Atreyus and not being there to advocate for his health and well being. Also I WILL NOT have my wife go through this alone in a city she doesn't know with the anxiety that comes from uncertainty of what the outcome may be.

Donations will go towards supplementing our lost income, travel expenses, food and anything else we may need.

Thanks for reading this. I will be updating this post with more photos and videos when we can.
