Barney Holt's Freedom Fund
Donation protected
Barney Holt was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for possession of methamphetamine. Having long struggled with addiction, he had only ever been convicted of drug crimes, but the law at the time allowed the judge to impose a life sentence nonetheless. Mr. Holt has served more than 12 years in prison. During that time he earned advanced trade certifications, worked for over a decade on the prison’s maintenance crew, completed rehabilitative programming, attended regular church services, became a trustee, and maintained an exemplary conduct record. He donated a portion of his prison wages every year to a food bank in Baton Rouge. Yesterday, at 61 years old, he was re-sentenced and released.
Mr. Holt was freed through Innocence Project New Orleans' Unjust Punishment Project. All donations to this fundraiser go directly to Mr. Holt, not IPNO.
