In April 2023, Barney will participate in the North Pole Marathon, a 42.2km race at the geographic North Pole on the frozen ice of the Arctic Ocean. A mentally and physically demanding challenge that will push Barney to the limit, the event takes place where there is no time zone and during the few weeks of the year when the sea ice is thick enough to support the competitors who will be running in temperatures well below -25°C.
Driving this challenge is Barney’s desire to raise awareness and support for two fantastic charities: Alzheimer’s Research UK and Ocean Generation – connecting to personal and professional passions. Supporting and sponsoring this journey is international architecture practice, Grimshaw - promoting fundraising events, match funding donations and helping to drive focus on the built environment's impact on mental and physical wellbeing and our collective need to respond to the climate challenge.
You can make a difference. No matter how big or small, every generous donation will go towards the two fantastic charities working on incredible projects. The money raised will be split 50/50 between Alzheimer's Research UK and Ocean Generation. Please click on the link below to find out more about where your money will go or keep up with the additional events that will be hosted in the build-up to this marathon.
Thank you!
