Barnard Matters: 2025 Scholarship Fundraiser
Donation protected
This is the 39th year of the Silver Lake Progressive Club scholarship, awarded to Barnard and East Barnard students who continue their education beyond high school at colleges, universities, culinary institutes and technical institutes across the country. Through the years, the Silver Lake Progressive Club has awarded a total of $45,500 in scholarships to 53 students. For 2025, there are eight Barnard students in the senior class at Woodstock High School who will receive an invitation to apply for a scholarship. Additionally, an invitation will be extended via the Listserv to any graduating seniors who are homeschooled or attend another high school.
Historically, scholarship funds were raised at a luncheon held between the town and school portions of the Annual Town Meeting, when it was a full day event. The school meeting no longer takes place after the town meeting, so the club transitioned to raising funds by offering coffee and pastries before the meeting. Five years ago, the Silver Lake Progressive Club started using the GoFundMe platform where half of overall funds are raised.
Thank you for helping us continue this tradition! Here's what past recipients have said:
“This scholarship helped take some of the financial burden off my shoulders.”
“I was able to purchase additional books and supplies.”
“I am incredibly thankful for this support from my community.”
"Every penny helps when you're in college."
The sky's the limit!
Help us reach our goal of $5,000 by June 1, 2025.

ABOUT The Silver Lake Progressive Club, a non-political community-based ladies’ club in Barnard. When founded in 1927, the term progressive in the name wasn’t political by nature; rather was a Victorian synonym for modern. The club has its roots as a farmers’ wives’ guild with experts from the Agricultural Extension Service providing women with advice on balanced nutrition and on canning, preserving, gardening and other home-based arts. Back then, wives met at the Progressive Club while their husbands went to grange meetings.
