Barnabus P. Carbuncle: From Stray to Safe Haven
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Eric. I am raising funds on behalf of the health and wellbeing of Barnabus P. Carbuncle, a handsome approximately 6-month-old male cat. This is important because despite the very brief time together, Barnabus has been on quite a journey. Below you will find some moments thus far.
The working theory is that he was abandoned near my house sometime in January 2024 and found shelter in the barn. Barnabus made his presence known the following March by enjoying one of the first sunny days of Spring. My mom noticed that he had a collar on. He would run away terrified at any attempt to approach him. We began earning his trust with some food. I set up a camera to confirm that he had a collar on and to post images to the local message board about a potential missing pet cat. An owner did not come forward.
After a week or so, Barnabus came up to my Mom and with little opposition he allowed her to remove the collar (which was a flea collar). Barnabus began coming closer and closer to the house until eventually just sitting on the steps to soak up the sun and loving life.
Barnabus in the following weeks became extremely affectionate and extremely chatty. His affection drove him to sleep overnight in the rain.
We had a bit of a scare May 3rd that earned Barnabus his first night indoors. This came 2 days after his first round of shots. Around 9:15pm, I hear a cat make a sound that if you read the subtitles would read "GET OFF MY LAWN!" I look out my window and Barnabus is aggressively on point. Using my phone's flashlight, I see two eyes shining back at me about 20-30 feet from Barnabus. My parents, nephew, and I rally together and run outside. I am out there in full panic flop sweat, zero sign of the second animal, and I turn around and Barnabus has already laid back down on the steps, full relax mode, and cleaning himself as if he hadn't a care in the world. Luckily, there wasn't an altercation between Barnabus and the other animal. After that close encounter, Barnabus was going to sleep in the basement at night and go outside during the day until we can get him to a vet, neutered and all his shots. Unfortunately, that luck would last only two days. Sunday May 5th, sometime in the afternoon Barnabus suffered a wound to the inside of his front right leg. It appears to be a bite wound. I have been treating and observing it since the incident and it appears to be healing, however slowly. The area is sensitive to the touch, but Barnabus does not appear hindered in any capacity.
Whether you define this as an unplanned rescue or the Cat Distribution System working at peak efficiency, any donation made will be in service to Barnabus P. Carbuncle.
From Barnabus and I we Thank You!
